This one fundamental truth in all of business, especially when thinking of how to start a business online from home, is to know who it is for. This cannot be emphasized enough. You may have heard this so many times that you now ignore it. I too was guilty of that.

I did not grasp this idea earlier on in my business. I wanted to have a business that was for everyone. The last thing I wanted was to leave anyone out.

Why would I do that?

I had a service to offer, and would eventually have a product, that I believe everyone would benefit from. As a matter of fact, they ALL needed it. That was my belief.

As time passed, I realized that to be my ego speaking, more than the reality. The truth is, you and I cannot be the be-all-end-all for everyone.

However, we could find the people who need what we have to offer and give it to them. They would be elated to receive it. What you have to offer is what they’ve been waiting for. Your service and/or product is the answer to their prayers.

With that in mind, it is imperative that you and I become clear on the WHO our business is for.

How do we do that?

==> Here are two of the most important steps <==

  • Find one person who has bought into your idea and thinks the world of it and what you do and how you do it.
  • Ask them questions. Find out what problem your service or product solved for them. Listen to the emotional component of their answer.

For example, they might say your service has brought them “great peace of mind.” They no longer have to be anxious about where to get the solution to their problem, now that they’ve found you.

With the feedback you receive, you are well on your way to develop the profile of the person who your business is for. That’s for whom you will create all of your service and/or product.

Some people call this discovery your Avatar, Ideal Person, Target Audience, etc.

Choose what sounds best for you.

Once you have discovered who your business is for, give him or her a name. You want to “speak” to and sell to that one person.

This may seem like you’ll be missing out if you do that. What about all the others?

Here’s the thing: you’re not. You’ll hit your target market and others around it.

I’ve worked on this for a long time. It has taken me several iterations to come to this one person that I have in mind when I create content.

I’ve also written over a thousand words in a letter format describing him in as much detail as I can.

I outline his pain and the solutions that I have to help him reduce and/or eliminate them.

You too can do the same. It takes time but there’s a way to hack that information, which I teach.
