Episode #052: How To Find Your Why And Succeed In Your Online Business From Home with Kingsley Grant

Popular author and speaker – Simon Sinek – wrote a book called “Start with Why!” It has become a bestseller and has revolutionized the way people think about the approach to their business.  

He makes the case of having a WHY behind your business.

✅ Here are some quotes from his book:

• “Knowing your WHY is not the only way to be successful, but it is the only way to maintain a lasting success and have a greater blend of innovation and flexibility. When a WHY goes fuzzy, it becomes much more difficult to maintain the growth, loyalty, and inspiration that helped drive the original success.
• “A failure to communicate WHY creates nothing but stress or doubt.”
• “Great leaders and great organizations are good at seeing what most of us can’t see. They are good at giving us things we would never think of asking for. Great leaders are those who trust their gut. They are those who understand the art before the science. They win hearts before minds. They are the ones who start with WHY.”
• “People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.”

✅ It’s clear that having a WHY is essential to your success especially as you consider starting a business online from home and even one that’s offline.

Recently I asked a question of a group that I’m a part of. It’s a Facebook group: A Bunch of Dads. The question was: “What was the reason you decided to start your business or is considering doing so?”

I had a number of responses. I picked out a few to share with you.

➡️ Jason Rich: I had a chance to be a more involved dad during my daughter’s formative years. I pick her up from school on the days that I have her (half the time)

➡️ Trent Rousey: I am in my third week at my own retail store/Farm. I did it to stop making ungrateful millionaires money and start giving my family what they deserve. Not spending 70 hours a week to make someone else’s family great!

➡️ Cliff Antone: Was never a fan of the 9-5 etc. So I started my own Web Development business and worked from home… then came the 1st Child.. Still worked from home, the 2nd and 3rd child came and I knew I had to get out. So here I am now a few years later doing the 9-5.. however from my own office, so works out good.

➡️ Jeremiah Mutty: My wife and I are foster and adoptive parents. I needed a job that would give me the flexibility to be the primary caregiver for the kids in our home.

➡️ Kurt Hash: Mines [sic], not full time yet but I’m building it to get out of working for someone else. I don’t want to rely on a paycheck at the whims of someone else. I want to be in control of my own future.

➡️ Johnny Glass: I got sick of producing my firm $2M+ a year and only making 10.3% of it. I figured I’d rather do it myself and do half the revenue at 75% margins, effectively making 3x more per year.

➡️ Mark Connor: To be my own boss, choose the hours I want to fit around my kids

As you listened to these men share their why, what is yours?

Let me share with you my WHY:

• To leave a legacy for my children and the people I’m called to serve
• To prove that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself, change course, and become successful
• To build schools in 3rd world countries in memory of my late mom – FLORES INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY (Forever Loving Others Raising Education Standards)

Here’s the key: Every person can find their “why” in life by asking these 3 questions:

1. How do I want to be remembered?
   • qualities
2. What legacy do I want to leave for my children?
   • something they can be proud of
   • something they will readily talk about and share with their own children
   • my altruism
   • love, commitment, dedication, etc.
3. What work excites me?
   • that which inspires me
   • aligns with the above 2 questions

When you are able to identify your “why”, the world becomes your playground ~ Kingsley Grant
