Episode #039: What If My Idea To Start A Business Does Not Work with Kingsley Grant

The “What If my idea to start a business does not work out” is an outflow from the “What If” question.

As a Psychotherapist, I’ve worked with hundreds of people over the years on issues that have ranged from one extreme to another. You name it and I probably have heard it. But one of the most recurring questions I get asked is the “What if” question.

Clients want to know what they should do if a situation arises, which is understandable. But most of the time it’s about an issue that is being fantasized about.

This rumination keeps them from taking action. It paralyzes them.

This is true in the area of desiring to start a business online from home. If you fantasize the worse case scenario, it will only make taking the first step, harder.

Here’s a summary of what was discussed in this session:

✅ Our general response to the “what if” question:

• The response we have when it comes to this question typically leans to the negative. Very rarely does it come up with a positive response.
• All of us are plagued with automatic thoughts, which are generally negative.

✅ A better response to the “what if” question:

• Utilize the Counter Question of “what if it does work out?”
• Envision it working out
• Describe the feelings, benefits, and your life at that “moment” you’ve envisioned

✅ Case & Point: Your business idea didn’t work out, now what?

Begin with these questions:

1. Was it a bad idea from the start?
2. Did you validate the idea to make sure it was something people wanted?
3. How was your marketing of the idea?
4. Did you give it enough time?
5. Could it be that it’s time to think about doing something else?

✅ Here’s what I know: it’s not time to throw in the towel.

1. You wouldn’t have even thought about doing something like this if there wasn’t something there pulling you towards being in control of your destiny.
2. You might be closer to your breakthrough than you think

✅ Now what?
